Castles, city evenings & hot-spring stays
Hyogo is a prefecture rather than a single city. Its appeal is the contrast: Kobe’s waterfront, Himeji’s celebrated castle and hot-spring towns such as Arima and Kinosaki. A first trip works best when you choose a compact route instead of trying to see the entire region.

Our suggested starting point for a short first visit. Choose convenient rail access if you plan a Himeji day trip, and check your hotel’s actual station: Shin-Kobe and the central urban stations serve different journeys.
Consider an overnight stay when the castle is your main priority and you prefer an unhurried start. It can also be a practical alternative to changing hotels every evening.
Choose a hot-spring stay for the experience itself. Arima pairs more naturally with a short Kobe-focused trip; give Kinosaki extra time and check the full rail journey before adding it to a three-day plan.
This is Travel World’s suggested route. Adjust it to your arrival time, interests and conditions; bookings and admissions are separate.
Start with a waterfront stroll and a relaxed city afternoon. Put one food experience on the schedule rather than several timed bookings. If Kobe beef is on your list, compare the cut, portion and complete menu before reserving.
Make Himeji Castle the main event and leave time for the approach and surrounding area. Wear comfortable shoes and confirm current opening arrangements. Return to your base for dinner instead of attaching another distant attraction to the same day.
Choose an Arima Onsen outing or an overnight stay. Read the bathing etiquette and ask your accommodation about tattoo policies and private-bath options. If you want Kinosaki, extend the trip and give the town its own overnight stop.
Spring and autumn are sensible starting points for a walking-focused itinerary, with the trade-off of popular travel periods. Summer and winter can still work when your days include indoor breaks and a flexible weather plan. Book the room you need before committing to a packed route.
Kobe and Himeji connect to the wider region by rail, including Shinkansen services. Plan each journey from the exact station and accommodation address. A rail pass is worth comparing only after you have priced the journeys you will actually take.
Try one local speciality at a time: Kobe beef can be a planned splurge, while akashiyaki offers another regional food experience. Tell restaurants about dietary needs in advance; a familiar-looking dish may contain ingredients you would not expect.

For a ryokan, check whether dinner and breakfast are included, the latest arrival time and whether the bath is shared or private. A prefecture-wide Expedia results page covers a broad area: narrow the map to your chosen town before booking.
